New Studio Dies

We added to our selection of Accuquilt Studio dies this spring.  There is a rughooking picnic down the road in Poplar Hill Park this June.  We've been invited to bring the Studio and dies to the picnic to cut wool for them.  We ordered a variety of circle dies so I added a couple of other dies to the order too.
In the photo, you can see Anne's sample using the Winding Ways die.  The block finishes 8" and requires a square at least 11.5" in size for the die.  It would be easier with 12" squares.  Customers are welcome to book a time to bring in their prepared squares for die cutting.  The Studio can cut 10 layers or squares at a time.  So we can die cut 80 squares in under 10 minutes for $10.  That makes a 64" by 80" quilt top so add some sashing and/or borders to make it the desired size.
We have a 4" finished tumbler die waiting to try as well as an apple core that is cut 5 1/2" by 6 3/4".
We are ready to cut wool pennies for you.  In the photo you can see the dies for 1" circles cut 16 at a time, 2" circles cut 8 at a time and a peek of the 3" circles cut 9 at a time.  We can cut 1.5", 2.5", 3.5" and 5.5" circles.

Let us die cut your stash so you can focus on sewing.

Motorcycle Fans

RetroRiders fabric from Windham has arrived.  There is a free pattern online called 'Speedway' by Whislter Studios.  The only print we did not get is a blue the same as the black and orange.

It's going quickly so email or call if you want us to hold some for you.

Where is spring this year?  All I see is snow!

Valentina by Robert kaufman

It's that time of year.  New fabric arrives more frequently.  Here is some from the other day.

This line is called 'Valentina' by Robert Kaufman.  I love the turquoise, white and red.  The colours are so clear and bright it was fun to unpack on a dull snowy February day.  I am thinking of ways to use the prints and wish I still made clothing because it would make great summer dresses.  I will need a new bag soon and have been thinking about another "Everything Goes Bag" by Among Brenda's Quilts.  Sounds like a great retreat project.         If I had a bedroom with white walls I could love a summer quilt too.

It's always time for a fun cat fabric.  Anne made this display with co-ordinating fat quarters.

Candy Treats and More

They arrived in time for Valentines!
Moda Candy squares are 2 1/2" squares in a package of 42 fabrics.  You ae likely aware of Moda charm squares, 5" each, of a fabric collection.  The candy are the same fabric collections in smaller size.   Perfect for treats for your friends, a treat for yourself.  They are $5 for 42 squares.
The pattern booklet has 18 projects using the candy squares.
We have 3 collections of candy:  Simple Marks Summer, Snowmen Gatherings and Lario.

To complement the candy  we have jelly rolls and charm squares of 'Snowmen Gatherings'.  Bolts are not due for a couple of months.

'Lario' is by 3 Sisters and would blend well with muslin colours and other Moda fabrics.

This is 'Simple Marks Summer'.  It brightened up today!  We have Malke Dubrawsky's first line of 'Simple Marks' in the earthier tones.  I love this one so much we have layer cakes, charm squares, candy squares and fat quarter bundles.  I cannot wait until the bolts arrive.  At least there is something to play with until then.

I love them so much I had to give you another view!

Sunstreaks

There's nothing like a delivery of new fabric to brighten up a snowy snowy day, especially when the fabric is called Sunstreaks!  Here is a peek of the 26 bolts straight out of the cartons:

And more

The line is designed by Patrick Lose for Robert Kaufman.  There are lots of our favourite Kaufman colours in this new design.  It is non-directional so it will work in many patterns.  I checked on their website for a free pattern but didn't find anything yet.  I wonder how they will look with Kona solids?

Also in the shipment were other fun fabrics.  This one reminds me of warmer days to come.

Visit Your Local Quilt Shop

Celebrate small local business.  "Visit Your Local Quilt Shop' day was started by the FabShop network to show support for quilt shop owners.  It is a challenge to compete with big chain stores but we work to provide the customer service that makes quilting a wonderful global community.  I've always thought that whenever you meet a quilter on your travels, you always are meeting a friend.
This year we are stretching the one day to three.  This is Canada and it is winter so you cannot count on good travelling weather on a specific day.  This way you have 3 days to choose.

I am working on something unusual for me, a 2 month calendar of classes.  It  will be ready for tomorrow.  Ela and Karen have been directed to make me stay on task if I wander off and start to do something else.  I will be teaching in London in the morning so need to get it done as soon as possible.

Here are the 3 draw prizes I have chosen.  You get a ballot with any purchase.

Welcome to 2013!

Thank you to all who supported our efforts in serving your quilting needs.  Without customer support a business does not thrive.  In 2013, we will continue to help you create the quilts of your dreams.

Today I have started counting the inventory.  It will take most of the week so bear with us if you come.  Things might look mixed up but we will get it looking organized as soon as possible.
As always, when I count I remove things that are not moving or need to be replaced.  The sale bolts will be expanding as I have added reds and 1800s reproductions so far today.  There are lots of fat quarters to add already.
I'd better get back to work so there is less to do tomorrow.
Happy New Year!
